Ranking
From EvaluationWiki
One of the fundamental evaluative operations. In that context, it refers to the process of placing evaluands in order of merit (or worth or significance etc.). There is no implication that the top-ranked evaluand has a high degree of merit (etc.) or that the bottom-ranked one lacks a high degree of merit. To draw such conclusions you would need strong further data about the grading of at least some of the ranked entities. The basic process to generate a ranking is pair-wise comparison which can of course be done in many cases by direct inspection, hence ranking does not require quantitative methods, although often generated from a scoring process. In particular, ranking is the basic process resulting from norm-referenced testing.
