Approaches that involve either quantitative measurement or relatively sophisticated mathematical analysis. Tend to focus on the use of standardized, structured data collection using surveys, closed-ended interviews, and tests (see qualitative methods). Usually associated with an Interest in generalizability rather than the individual case, and often part of a neo-positivist, deductive, natural science view of science.
