The International Red Cross and the Save the Children Fund are long-lived and well-known examples of these. They are also NPOs, but the fact they make no profit does not mean they do a good job of spending the money donated to them, since the former-not the latter--has a recent track record of seriously questionable competence in management. In this respect they are of course no different from government organizations.
