Necessary

A circumstance or property N so closely associated with some entity or state E that the occurrence of E without N is impossible, either logically impossible or empirically impossible. If the former, N is said to be a logically necessary condition for E; if the latter, an empirically necessary condition. Cf. sufficient condition, and cause.
