Multiple-rating item

Jump to: navigation, search

A type of test item that requires the testee to grade each of several answers to the test question, using a supplied set of defined grades. Requires skill in evaluating several responses, not merely selecting one; this tests a higher-order cognitive skill and is a much more common task in post-test life. The recommended scoring rubric gives zero marks to someone who is merely guessing by giving half marks for 'near-miss' grades and double minus marks for 'far-miss' grades. Designed especially for testing critical thinking and evaluation skills; preserves machine-scorability, so that it can be used for large-scale testing; compare multiple-choice.
