Evaluation

The determination of the merit, worth, or significance of something (or the product of this process). The three terms listed are, respectively, approximately equivalent in most contexts, to quality, value, and importance; but there are scores of other terms with similar meanings such as assessment, review, critique, and appraisal. The term is also now used as a name for the discipline concerned with the study of evaluation-its methodology, models, history, etc.-in which it is now possible to obtain masters and doctoral research degrees.
