Describe

(Redirected from Descriptive)
Recent efforts by qualitative evaluators have laid much emphasis on improving the descriptive element in evaluation, often using it-suitably improved-as the whole of the evaluation. Some of the refinements of description include 'rich description' and 'thick description' described in texts on qualitative methods. If 'thick description' can include evaluative description, as seem arguable (for example, 'highly professional counseling services'), then this approach does not involve any abandonment of the standard definition of evaluation as providing conclusions, even if implicit ones, about merit, worth, and significance, contrary to the first impression it gives of avoiding the jump from 'mere description' to evaluative conclusions.
