Criterion-referenced test

From EvaluationWiki

Jump to: navigation, search

A test in which the results are reported as performance against externally-defined standards by contrast with a norm-referenced test. For example, a beginning pilot competency test is designed to determine whether the testee is clearly able to fly a small plane. Grading is a general-purpose criterion-referenced testing procedure which refers to external standards for excellence (the A grade), acceptable performance (the C grade), etc., in the subject matter area being tested.
