A term from mathematics that refers to a variable that changes steadily, not in sudden jumps nor with any breaks at all. The term is often misused as a synonym for 'continual' which means without serious interruption, but does not exclude sudden jumps or very short breaks. In the real world, highways are continuous, except during the aftermaths of earthquake, the rain in rainy weather is merely continual.
