Best practice

Usually taken to mean one of the best, that is, one of the A-rated practices, rather than a single best practice. Naturally, there are great arguments about what is in fact best practice, in education, medicine, crime prevention, etc., just as in talking about diets or football teams-and it is almost always possible to find equally well-qualified experts supporting and rejecting almost any candidate. This should be taken to illustrate the extent to which serious evaluation is still not done in many of the most important areas of human activity, not that there is no such thing as best practice, or no such thing as a scientific discipline of evaluation that could be taken to identify best practice.
