Achievement tests

These are traditionally contrasted with ability tests, the underlying concept being that the former measure what the subject can do now, and the latter measure what s/he could do in the future with appropriate training. However, the validity of ability tests has proven to be very dubious, and the current emphasis in testing is very much on the achievement test.
