Accreditation

The process, and the result, of systematic external determination whether an organization, most commonly a school or college or training program, meets certain quality standards developed at the request of and approved by an association of those organizations. While the accreditation team is external to the particular institution being accredited, it is internal to the association of like bodies, and usually unpaid; both features lead to weaknesses, but the arrangement still has some influence in maintaining standards of quality.
